Description:
Jazz piano master born in Leipzig, Germany in 1944, and violinist Mateusz Smoczynski, born in Warsaw, Poland in 1984. This duo album features Joachim Kühn, a master of jazz piano born in Leipzig, Germany in 1944, and Mateusz Smoczynski, a violinist born in Warsaw, Poland in 1984. 40 years apart in age, these two musicians, both with roots in classical music, have found expression in the dramatic improvisations of jazz. Joachim Kühn has been a close friend of Polish jazz violinist Zbigniew Seifert since the 1970s, not only inviting Seifert to play with him in his own works, but also performing with the NDR Radio Orchestra in 1974, In 1976, Joachim Kühn recorded a work with Seifert. The two performed together 10 years ago in 2009, when Joachim played Seifert's Violin Concerto with the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra. The two performed together in a situation. Nine years later, Joachim, delighted by the development of the young violinist's expressive powers after nine years, invited Smoczynski to his home island of Ibiza five months later to record the piece. The production of this work was realized. The four-and-a-half-hour recording was basically improvised, with no reworking, but the recording was made at Joachim's home in the island of Ibiza, The recording was made at Joachim's home, and while there was a sense of tension, there was also a sense of composure, as if he was enjoying the recording. And because of this, there is a world of eloquence in the performance, despite the modest number of notes, and you can hear how the two trusted and inspired each other. The performance is shaped by chamber music sounds and jazz impulses. The nine pieces include originals by Joachim Kühn and his collaborations with Smoczynski, as well as music by Gurdjieff and the great oudist Rabbi Abu Khalil." Joachim's last original, entitled "Paganini," is like a small classical piece, and there is a performance that also reaffirms the artist Joachim Kühn's knowledge of classical music and his sense of composition.
