Lehar (1870-1948)
Description:
The story is Rehardt's comedy "Cloclos," modeled on Victor Marguerite's novel about young women in the 1920s who assert their independent existence and strut around in short dresses. Cloclos, a Parisian dancer, her patron the mayor and his wife Melzine, and Cloclos' lover Maxime weave a stylish tale to which Lehar has added lyrical and beautiful music. Although rarely performed today, the foxtrot "Ich habe La Garconne gelesen" was a big hit when it was first performed in 1924. In this revival at the Lehar Festival, Feldhofer, who sings the cloquelo, and a group of other talented singers give a series of wonderful singing and acting performances. The orchestra and singers all seemed to be having a lot of fun while performing. Please enjoy this beautiful work with plenty of Lehar's sweet melodies scattered throughout. Naxos Japan
