Formed for the score to Jarmusch's film The Limits of Control, their debut album, Silver Haze, is finally being released on Sacred Bones, SQURL was formed in 2009 by Jim Jarmusch and Carter Logan for the score to Jarmusch's film "The Limits of Control". Over a decade later, after working on numerous EPs and film scores, they will release their first full-length album, Silver Haze, on Sacred Bones in May 2023. The album was produced by Randall Dunn, who has worked with SQURL inspired artists such as Sunn O))), Boris, Earth, Zola Jesus, and Marissa Nadler. With collaborators such as Charlotte Gainsbourg, Anika, and Marc Ribot, the result is a work that shares the energetic lineage of the New York School of Poets. Silver Haze" further develops SQURL's passion for creating richly textured sounds with a keen ear for production. The band is known for playing with everything from analog synths to broken radios and drawing inspiration from painters, writers, and even birds on the road. Silver Haze is a poetic journey of spoken words, dynamic instrumentals, drone riffs, and distorted effects. In addition to their signature stacks of delays, they use tubular bells and cellos to envelop the listener in warm vibrations that are both subtle and destructive.
