This is a heart-warming album of motetus (polyphonic vocal music) by Palestrina, the "father of church music" representing the late Italian Renaissance, and his successors, sung in the world's finest harmony and with the purity of the Westminster Abbey Choir. Palestrina's masterpiece "Mass for Pope Marcellus" is of course a must-hear. Allegri's "Miserere," which is known as an anecdote that Mozart wrote down the score after hearing it only once, is also a piece of great interest. No bilingual lyrics are included. (C)RS
