TOCOBO is a newer Korean brand (founded 2020) that punches above its weight with clean, single-focus formulations. The Calamine Pore Control Cleansing Oil is their flagship first-cleanse, built around calamine (zinc oxide and iron oxide blend traditionally used to calm irritation) combined with light botanical oils that lift sebum without over-stripping. The pink tint comes from the calamine itself, not added dye.
This is aimed at the combination or oily skin shopper who gets congestion in the nose and chin area but can't tolerate aggressive cleansing oils that leave tight, squeaky skin. At $28 for 200ml, it's mid-tier pricing for a well-formulated first cleanse. If you've been using DHC's Deep Cleansing Oil and find it too stripping, or Banila Co's Clean It Zero and want something more pore-focused, TOCOBO sits in that middle ground.
The base blend of jojoba, sunflower, and argan oils dissolves sunscreen, makeup, and sebum. Calamine's zinc oxide content provides mild astringent and anti-inflammatory action on congested pores. Salicylic acid is included at a low concentration for gentle pore unclogging during the cleanse. The oil emulsifies cleanly when water is added, rinsing without a film. Over 2 to 4 weeks of nightly use, blackheads on the nose visibly loosen.
Apply 3 to 4 pumps to dry skin. Massage over the entire face, including around the nose and chin, for 60 to 90 seconds. Add a small splash of water and keep massaging so the oil emulsifies into a milky texture. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Follow with a gentle foam or gel cleanser as the second step. Use nightly. For heavy makeup days, use a generous 5 pumps and extend the massage time.
No. The pink comes from the calamine pigment in the oil, but it rinses off fully and leaves no visible color on skin. The pink-white milky emulsion is cosmetic, not a stain.
Different focus. Anua's Heartleaf Oil targets sensitivity and calming with heartleaf extract. TOCOBO's Calamine targets active pore congestion with calamine and salicylic acid. For sensitive calm skin: Anua. For oily congested skin: TOCOBO. Both are excellent first cleanses; choose based on your primary concern.
2 to 4 weeks of nightly use. Noticeable softening of existing blackheads around week 2, visible reduction week 3 to 4. For stubborn blackheads, combine with a BHA toner or a weekly clay mask.
Yes. Cleansing oils don't conflict with retinol because they rinse off. Use this as your first cleanse, then a gentle foam, then your retinol serum. The salicylic acid content is low enough that it doesn't sensitize the skin for retinol application.
Not with proper emulsification. The formula uses non-comedogenic oils, and the full rinse prevents residue. If you find your skin feels coated, extend the water-emulsification step by another 30 seconds.
Follow with a gentle second cleanser like COSRX Triple Hyaluronic Cleanser. Browse the full TOCOBO collection or related: Korean cleansing oils, pore care products.
