A spectacular spectacular ballet based on the fairy tale "The Snow Queen" Scottish Ballet, the Scottish National Ballet, has been active in Glasgow since 1969. For its 50th anniversary, the Scottish Ballet will present a newly created ballet, "The Snow Queen". The choreography by Artistic Director Christopher Hampson is unique in that it utilizes the story of Andersen's fairy tale in which Kai, a boy, is kidnapped by the Snow Queen and his childhood friend, Gerda, goes looking for him, while introducing the Princess of Summer as the sister of the Snow Queen and interweaving the love rivalry between the three women over Kai. It is unique. The story begins with an argument between the Summer Queen, who yearns for the human world in the ice world, and the Snow Queen, who wants to keep her sister under her control, followed by a fight over Kai between the Summer Princess and Gerda, who has come to the human world. The many adventures of Gerda and the Princess of Summer in their search for Kai are then unfolded on stage with powerful and graceful dance until the climactic scene in the ice palace.Music is by Rimsky=Korsakov (including the opera "The Snow Girl," "Spanish Fantasy," and "Flight of the Bears") arranged for this work by Richard Honor, who brilliantly fills this ballet work with lively rhythms and melodies.
