This monochromatic collection of handmade ceramic dinnerware by Hitoshi Kato is an RW Guild favorite. Kato creates his signature vases and dinnerware using Shinogi しのぎ. This reductive process creates a rhythmic pattern that adds a geometric element to anywhere it is placed.
Shinogi しのぎ: A decorative ceramic technique where ridgelines are carved on to the surface of dried clay, prior to being fired. This traditional method takes its name from the ridge of the thickest point of a samurai swords blade, known as the “shinogi”.
Care Instructions: Hand wash only. Dry well before storing.
To prevent food staining, we recommend soaking your dinnerware in lukewarm water before first use. For added protection, rinse your dinnerware immediately after each meal. For maximum protection, refrain from placing food most likely to cause staining on your dinnerware, such as tomato sauce and highly oily foods.
Vigorous use of metal cutlery is liable to leave slight markings on your dinnerware. To avoid this, we recommend using a lighter touch, as well as high-quality flatware; ideally, 18/10 stainless steel. If markings do occur, we recommend washing your dinnerware soon after a meal. Though not all markings will come out, set-in markings may be able to be removed by washing the dinnerware with a gentle, mildly abrasive household cleaner, or, alternately, a simple paste of baking soda and water.
Each piece is individually handmade, and natural variations in color, texture, and finish are to be expected and celebrated.
