The Nintendo 64 (N64) was Nintendo's third home console and a pivotal system in the fifth generation of video gaming, known for popularizing 3D graphics, introducing the analog stick, and featuring iconic titles like Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Hardware and Specifications

The N64 was built around a powerful 64-bit architecture developed in partnership with Silicon Graphics, initially code-named "Project Reality".

CPU: 64-bit NEC VR4300, running at 93.75 MHz.

GPU: 64-bit Reality Coprocessor (SGI co-processor) with specialized features like anti-aliasing, Z-buffering, and realistic texture mapping.

Memory: 4 MB of RAMBUS RDRAM, upgradable to 8 MB with the Expansion Pak accessory for improved performance in certain games.

Media: Used proprietary ROM cartridges (Game Paks) instead of CDs, offering faster load times and better piracy protection, though at higher manufacturing cost and lower storage capacity.

Controller: The unique M-shaped controller was the first to feature an integrated analog stick, setting a standard for future console gamepads and enabling precise 3D control.

Multiplayer: Notably, it included four built-in controller ports, pioneering the standard for instant four-player couch gaming.
