Formed in 1972 by Andy Partridge, Colin Moulding, Terry Chambers, and Barry Andrews, XTC signed with Virgin Records in 1977 and became popular for their unique pop sound in the New Wave movement of the time. In 1979, Dave Gregory joined the group following the departure of Barry Andrews, and in 1982, Terry Chambers left the group to form the three-piece XTC. 1986's "Skylarking," produced by Todd Rundgren, was an international hit. However, the band is now virtually inactive, with only Andy Partridge remaining. Influenced by the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and psychedelic rock, XTC's sound is full of originality and has greatly influenced Japanese musicians.XTC debuted with "White Music" released in January 1978, and although initially categorized in the punk rock or new wave genres, the band's oldies and psychedelic rock-influenced sound was distinctly different. The band's sound, influenced by oldies and psychedelic rock, was unique. After the release of their debut album, XTC played nearly 80 concerts in the U.K. alone, including a concert in Liverpool on June 3 of the same year, which was recorded and broadcast for promotional purposes. This live album is based on the recordings from this broadcast, and includes the complete concert, including the encores. The set list also includes a Bob Dylan cover number from the same album. This is a valuable archive of XTC's sound, which is a sound concept that can be considered the origin of the band, as it was just after their debut!
