Keitaro Harada, who has released two albums of recordings of works mainly from the Americas with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, which draws overwhelming heat from the NHK Symphony Orchestra and delivers a feast of sound, took up a Russian work, which is his specialty along with American works. The Firebird" is one of Stravinsky's three major ballets, but instead of the often-performed suite version, the complete work, which was first performed in 1910, is featured, placing more emphasis on the narrative. The complete work version is well known in recordings by Boulez/New York Philharmonic, Ozawa/Orchestre de Paris, Gergiev/Marinsky Opera Orchestra, and Dutoit/Montreal Symphony Orchestra, but this performance by Harada/NH Symphony Orchestra was a masterful performance with outstanding performance and energy, showing the momentum of the NHK Symphony Orchestra in recent years. Combined with the spacious acoustic of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space, this is an excellent recording of the orchestra that audiophiles will enjoy.
