Description:
The first collection, "English Music for Strings," was well received. The second collection includes works by two late Romantic composers. Bantock was a professor of music at Birmingham University and a close friend of Havergal Bryan, who left behind a long symphony. The serenade "From the West End" was commissioned by the Three Choirs Festival held in Hereford in 1912. It was named "From the West End" because Hereford is in the west of England. It is a wonderful "symphony for strings," so symphonic, concise, organized, and demanding in expression that Douglas Bostock, who performed it, said, "This is not a serenade. The other two suites are a suite of Bantock's favorite Scottish melodies and a suite of six pieces by Wilson, who is known for his works for Shakespeare's plays. Naxos Japan
