Description:
The kora, a lute-shaped stringed instrument, is said to be the prototype of the harp and guitar, and is considered to have the most beautiful tone of all African folk instruments. It is a traditional folk instrument that has been passed down for over 300 years in countries such as Senegal, Gambia, Mali, and Guinea, and is played by griots (hereditary performing groups). This album is considered one of the best of the best of such kora albums. It features performances by four kora players from the griot family, including Sidiki Japate (1922-1996), who is known as the "King of Kora," father and son of Toumani Jabate, Kisho Batul Seku Kouyate, Jerimadi Sissoko, who played in the Rail Band, and Nfa Jabate R. This is a work from 1970.
