Haku Collective is celebrating the empowering voices of Hawaiian, BIPOC & AAPI women in our new series, Voice of a Woman. Each silhouette portrait in the series features a female musical artist from Hawaiʻi and her impactful lyrics. Amplifying their voice is Aloha de Mele, a rising female artist, who was commissioned to illustrate this special series.
Our first print released on International Women’s Day, features Kimié Miner, Grammy-Nominated Producer, Singer-Songwriter, and Recording Artist. The portrait features her handwritten lyrics from her award winning song, “Proud as the Sun.” Proud as the Sun is much more than a song for Miner. It’s a cherished memento created during a time of transformation, while she was pregnant with her first child. During this time, her approach to music became a profoundly inward reflection of her core values, intentions and hopes for the future she envisioned for her daughter.

About Kimié Miner:
Kimié Miner is a Native Hawaiian mother of three. She champions the idea that one should remain true to who they are and to approach their experiences with the pride of their heritage. Her songs regularly evoke the Hawaiian concept of the Piko: the “naval” or “center” which represents a home base to which one can always return. She notes that “As Hawaiians, we have our roots and our routes. We know who we are, and we take that knowledge with us when we navigate and explore the rest of the world.” For more visit KimieMiner.com
About Aloha De Mele:
JT Ojerio is a self-taught artist, of hispanic and asian decent, from Oahu, Hawai’i. In 2017, JT discovered her love for drawing by chance after she suffered a hip injury that resulted in reconstructive surgery and a long recovery away from home. While resting for most of that winter, she was able to explore her creative side for the first time and began drawing images that reminded her of Hawai’i and the aloha spirit she missed so much. Aloha de Mele art is inspired by Hawaii’s beauty, culture, and people. Each piece is meant to exude good vibes, and the aloha spirit no matter your location.
Our Kūleana (Responsiblity) Promise:
