Commemorating the 150th anniversary of his birth! The Sibelius (1865-1957) Symphony Cycle by Pietari Inkinen and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra is now available in full force, after the release of only No. 2 in 2014. The original plan was to use the previously released take of No. 2 (live performance at Suntory Hall), but since the performance at Minato Mirai was also a rare masterpiece, the staff was determined to "please listen to this one as well," and the April 20 take was included in the complete set. As you know, conductor Pietari Inkinen has always been an authority on Sibelius and has completed a cycle with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra for NAXOS. Sibelius is also an important composer for the Japan Philharmonic. The world's first stereo recording of the complete Sibelius symphonies with the orchestra's founder, Akio Watanabe, is a legendary achievement. The 2013 Sibelius Cycle by the Japan Philharmonic and Inkinen was a truly exciting event.At the press conference held prior to the performance, Inkinen spoke passionately about his commitment to Sibelius, and the most important thing he emphasized was the order and combination of the pieces. In particular, he recognized No. 6 and No. 7 as "works with a very similar style," and he wanted to connect them directly to No. 7 when No. 6 was finished, which he did in this album as well, and the two works were recorded in succession.
