Description:
[Furtwängler's superb live performance III] Re-issued on CD for the first time in 20-30 years from analog master tapes! The Furtwängler's treasured recordings on the Seven Seas (former Cetra label) have been reissued with the latest digital remastering and UHQCD specification! No. 40" was released by Cetra in 1981. The complete works of "The Marriage of Figaro", "Don Giovanni" and "The Magic Flute" were released in 1982. This is the first CD with this coupling. The recording of "No. 40" was made during a concert tour with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 1949, and is the only one of the three surviving recordings of the same work with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. The Andante is sung slowly, and the Allegro is powerful. The huge scale of expression is truly Furtwängler! The overtures from the three major operas were recorded live at the Salzburg Festival.
