Description:
Leopold Stokowski (1882-1977) was a great American conductor, known for the movie "Fantasia. He was truly a "magician of the orchestra," and the music produced by his ever-changing baton fascinated everyone. He gave the U.S. premieres of many of his works, and always gave his all in both recordings and concerts. He devoted himself to the development of American music in the 20th century, sometimes at the cost of his own fortune. He knew how to make an orchestra sound its best, and he was willing to make his own arrangements of past works for maximum effect. He wanted these arrangements to be loud and gorgeous! He wrote them in such a way that they would sound fresh and exciting even when played by other conductors. Here is a selection of Stokowski's arrangements from a series of recordings by the virtuoso Serebrier. You will enjoy the quintessence of this music in abundance. Naxos Japan
