Elevate your Montreal Canadiens Memorabilia collection with the Maurice Richard Collectors Card Print!
Maurice Richard was affectionately known as "The Rocket" during an 18 year career in the National Hockey League, all with the dominant Montreal Canadiens of the 1940's and 1950's. The nickname was well deserved as it described his speed and goal scoring brilliance. Richard played junior hockey in Quebec with the Verdun Juniors and the Montreal Seniors before joining the Montreal Canadiens for good in 1942. During a glorious career, "Rocket" set many records. In particular, on Dec. 28, 1944, he spent the day moving into a new home then drove to the Montreal Forum where he scored a record 5 goals and 3 assists in that nights game. His career was also a star-studded one that saw him elected as an All-Star 14 times and win 8 Stanley Cups. Known as a fierce competitor, "Rocket" also possessed quite a temper. In a playoff game at the Forum, he was suspended for striking an official which caused a riot, forcing the game to be forfeited. Today, we remember Maurice Richard for the skill with which he played the game and the excitement he brought to hockey fans around the world.
