1. How do I know which size chin rest to order (4/4, 3/4, 1/2, etc.)?
The chin rest size should match your violin body size. Full‑size violins are 4/4. Fractional sizes (3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8) are for younger players or smaller instruments. If you're unsure, measure the distance between the two mounting holes on your current chin rest – but the safest way is to order the same size as your violin. Most adult players need 4/4.
2. Is the cork already attached, or do I need to glue it?
On most models, the cork is pre‑installed on the bottom of the chin rest – ready to use out of the box. We also include a spare cork pad in case you need to replace it later. No glue required; the cork is fitted into a recessed channel.
3. What are the differences between ebony, jujube wood, and imitation ebony?
Real ebony is dense, heavy, and traditional – it gives a classic dark look and solid feel. Jujube wood is slightly lighter with a warm brown color and a more open grain. Imitation ebony is a composite (often resin or dyed hardwood) that looks similar to ebony but costs less and is more resistant to cracking. All three are comfortable and durable – pick based on your budget and aesthetic preference.
4. Will these screws fit my violin? What are “reverse screws”?
The included screws are standard violin chin rest screws with reverse threads (sometimes called “left‑hand thread”). This means you turn them clockwise to loosen and counter‑clockwise to tighten – opposite of normal screws. The reverse thread prevents the chin rest from loosening due to vibration. The screwdriver included works perfectly with these screws. They fit most standard violin end buttons.
5. Can I use this chin rest on a viola?
No – these chin rests are shaped specifically for violin. Viola bodies are wider and have different mounting hole spacing. However, we may carry viola chin rests in the future – please check our store or contact us for recommendations.
6. Do you sell a full set of ebony accessories (chin rest + pegs + tailpiece)?
Yes, we offer complete ebony accessory sets and jujube wood full sets (as shown in our product images). These include chin rest, pegs, tailpiece, and end button. Because there are many combinations, please contact customer service with your violin size and we’ll help you order the correct full set.
