The LSO Percussion Ensemble, a superb group, tries its hand at jazz! The LSO Percussion Ensemble, a superb group of six members who play percussion parts in the prestigious London Symphony Orchestra, is now ready for your listening pleasure. The previous album was a collection of Reich's works including "Music for Pieces of Wood" (LSO5073), which was highly acclaimed for its sharp performance and pop sensibility. This time, in addition to another work by Reich, the program features works by jazz greats Chick Corea, Joe Locke, Makoto Ozone, and Guillermo Simcock, among others. Although the music is percussion, the melodies and chords are also well-developed, as the main instruments are vibraphone, marimba, and piano, all of which have a musical scale. The Chick Corea and Ozone pieces were written for Gary Burton, and Simcock's suite is based on melodies by some of the biggest names in jazz history, including his favorites Weather Report, Yellow Jackets, and Step Ahead, so it has a cool jazz or fusion feel to it. It's fresh and cool, reminiscent of jazz or fusion. Simcock himself is a pianist on the album, which is another luxury.The LSO percussion ensemble's virtuosity is well known from their recordings of Holst's "The Planets" and Ravel's works with the London Symphony Orchestra. The LSO percussion ensemble's precise, energetic playing and symphonic compositions are only possible with the experience of working with such a renowned orchestra, and the vivid sound of the DSD256fs recording is also noteworthy.
