Description:

The legend of "Mack the Knife" is finally complete. The "Queen of Jazz" performed at the Berlin Sports Palace on March 25, 1962, and this never-before-seen live recording is now available! Ella Fitzgerald, aka "The First Lady of Song" and "The Queen of Jazz," has unearthed a never-before-seen live recording of her performance at the Berlin Sports Palace in March 1962, and has brought it back to life in Hi-Fi stereo. Previously kept in the private collection of Norman Granz! Speaking of Ella Fitzgerald and Berlin, the Grammy Award-winning "Mack the Knife - Ella in Berlin," recorded in 1960 and a huge hit (in 1999, Ella was inducted into the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and Grammy Hall of Fame), a monster album that was simultaneously inducted into the Hall of Fame. Ella visited Berlin successively in 1961 and 1962, and the only unidentified sound source was this 1962 album. The completion of the Berlin trilogy has been a dream of jazz fans for many years, and this release finally realizes it.The year 1962, when this album was recorded, was the peak of Ella's career, and this live performance took place during the most extensive European tour of her career up to that point. Backed by the powerful rhythm section of pianist Paul Smith, bassist Wilfred Middlebrooks, and drummer Stan Levy, Ella charmed the audience with her powerful swing, and the audience's cheers and joys are beautifully captured in this realistic recording!
