Star People Nation," the first album in three years by Theo Croker, a new generation jazz trumpeter, is the third album in three years by Theo Croker, a trumpeter of note in the jazz scene that continues to create new trends in contemporary music. Theo Crocker's first album with Okeh, "Afro Physicist" (2014), transcended the boundaries of jazz, incorporating elements of rock, funk, afro, trip-hop, free, smooth, and everything in between to create what he himself calls "dark funk". He has achieved a sound that he himself calls "dark funk. His last album, "Escape Velocity" (2016), was recorded with his band, DVRK FUNK, and he expressed the world of Dark Funk with spiritual and upbeat songs that were played in perfect harmony. The band then moved from their longtime base in New York to LA, where they spent 18 months recording this album, "Star People Nation". Theo Crocker says of the album, "It took me 30 years to fit my identity as a black male into my interpretation of black American music. He says, "It took 30 years. The mixing and mastering engineer is Bob Power, known for his work with Erykah Badu and D'Angelo, who supports Theo Crocker's spiritual worldview and sound.Subconscious Flirtations and Titillations," the lead track from the album, features an emotional trumpet over a groove of fast-beating drums and passionate piano, and is a symbol of the album as a whole.
