Megadeth
Description:
Their eighth album, released in 1999. It is remembered as the most experimental and controversial album of Megadeth’s entire career. Building on the success of their previous album, *Cryptic Writings*, and aiming to further penetrate the mainstream, the sound became dramatically softer. The band incorporated elements of industrial and dance music, such as programmed beats, sampling, and synthesizers, prioritizing spacious soundscapes and catchy vocal melodies over fast-paced riffs. The title is said to have been inspired by a remark made by Lars Ulrich, and true to that, this is an album where the band took a major “gamble.” If you’re expecting Megadeth as a metal band, you’ll be disappointed, but if you listen to it as a “high-quality rock album created by two geniuses, Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman,” it’s a very intriguing record.
