Description:
This is a collection of works by Teodorico Pedrini (1671-1746), who was born in Italy, went to Beijing, China in the Qing Dynasty in 1711 as a missionary, and died there. In addition to being a missionary, he served as a court musician in China and was a music teacher to the three sons of Emperor Xi. He is said to have left many musical works, but this violin sonata, Op. 3, is the only one known today. The style is of course Corelli-esque, but it is interesting to note the unique oriental wabi. Performed by American virtuoso Nancy Wilson. 2006, other recordings. (C)RS
