These cheeky pink pigs date back to the 1960s and were the front and rear covers of a liquor and wine menu from a bar called Le Tire Du Bouchon – The Corkscrew – in downtown Montreal, Canada.

The bar was adjacent to the prestigious French restaurant La Vieille Porte, opened by restaurateur Harry Notkin. Considered in its day to be one of the top restaurants in the world, La Vieille Porte was a gourmet destination for Les Amis d'Escoffier members and won numerous awards.

But as time passed and tastes changed, formal French dining became less popular and La Vieille Porte and Le Tire du Bouchon closed in 1974. Harry Notkin, who owned around 60 restaurants in Montreal and Quebec, transformed the space into "Alfies"- a restaurant specializing in roast beef, Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings.

The pink pigs – a smiling pig standing behind a wine bottle and a startled pig balanced on a wine barrel – were originally set against black velvet backgrounds.
