I have a feeling Grace was not entirely devoted to her spelling, as she seems to have used this book to collect messages from her friends, too! (i.e. "When you grow old and cannot see/ Put on your specs and think of me.") There are a handful, clearly written by different people, on the end pages, and, my favorite, these little flower drawings at the front. As you likely know by now I’m a sucker for a sweet and much personalized old school book, and this is very much one of those. By William Swinton, published in 1880 by Ivison, Blakeman, Taylor and Co.
