I purchased this and a few other drawings by Edwin Kosarek from a dealer who had purchased a lot of them plus a journal kept by Kosarek, which provided a little biographical information. What I know is that he was from New Jersey(b. 1929) but spent a good part of the 1950s in Mexico, after which he briefly attended Cooper Union. He was gay, and estranged from his family, and, it seems increasingly mentally ill, with not much record of him after the 1950s. I think many of his drawings were quite wonderful and this one marvelous, making me think of some of my favorite work by Kiki Smith but done thirty+ years earlier. What a feeling of life force in this woman, and what a feeling of energy and resolve to the drawing...and what a powerful mass of hair! 

Ink on paper drawing mounted to thin white paper with punched edges, which is signed and dated. Drawing: 8 5/8" x 6 11/16". Backing paper: 8 1/2" x 11. Backing paper could easily be trimmed for framing. Good condition, with a bit of toning around the edges of the drawing and the tape behind it showing through just a bit.
