I bought and sold a couple of other 19th century watercolors by this same Marian Marcelin a few months ago, then went back to my source last week and found a couple more. Marian did love her flowers! And she rendered them with a lot of care and attention to detail--noting here "drawn from nature," and "Mrs. Woodrick Sea-Cliff," I presume describing the location where this particular gladiola was blooming in September of 1878. Lovely, and the green of those spiky leaves is especially electric!
11" x 8 3/8", very good condition, radiant color, with small losses to bottom corners of the paper (one trimmed, as found) and a small chip to left edge of paper near center. .
