I'm a real sucker for early children's books, though I hold myself back much of time--this one though, a 1845 copy of Marmaduke Multiply, published by Munroe and Francis, Boston and considered an "important" child's book, was way too good to resist-- and is also a rarity. This copy was given a handmade paper cover with title cut out and adhered as an oval to the front, plus gorgeous hand-marbled/grain painted paper covering the spine. Inside, 71 pages of wood-engravings, each accompanying a multiplication equation and a rhyme. A good number of them fully or partially hand-colored too, making for a very singular copy of a very charming little book. Love.
5 1/2" x 4 5/8". 71 pages plus end pages. Wood-engraved illustrations throughout. Photos show front cover then a few favorite pages, followed by a representative sampling of more. Some wear to wrapper and first few pages; overall good antique condition.
