I'll never resist a good heart. I believe this is pewter, and was made as a paper knife / letter opener rather than as a page turner, as it is heavy and substantial and that blade good for tearing open an envelop--and of course it's the perfect one for opening love letters and valentines. Excellent objecthood, with raised ring (feeling a bit like a wedding band, really) mid-way down, and heavy enough to weight down a pile of papers on the desk too. 

8" l x 1 5/8" w. Good much used condition, with a terrific rich patina.
