A Legacy of Fijian Resilience & Celebration This exclusive two-note set captures two of the most fascinating moments in Pacific numismatic history.
Note 1: 1971 Fiji 60 Cents Banknote
Condition: Very Fine (VF) – Crisp paper with light, honest folds and vibrant color.
History: Issued to celebrate the Centenary of Fiji’s First Postage Stamps (1871–1971).
Design: Features the famous Pietro Annigoni portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and a beautifully detailed reproduction of the original 1871 "Fiji Times Express" stamps.
Note 2: 1942 Fiji One Penny Emergency Issue
Condition: Fine (F) – Circulated condition, showing the characteristic wear of a wartime survivor.
History: During World War II, the shortage of metal was so severe that Fiji had to print paper "shilling" and "penny" notes. These were printed in Australia as an emergency measure.
Design: A small, unique green note featuring the Fiji Coat of Arms on the front and a representation of the penny coin on the reverse. It is one of the smallest and lowest-denomination banknotes ever issued in the British Commonwealth.
Why Collect This Pair? Together, these notes tell the story of a nation moving from the hardships of WWII to the celebrations of its first century of postal history. These are "conversation piece" notes that stand out in any world currency album.
