Chaplin's first talking film, in which he skewers Hitler 'Adenoid Hynkel' and Mussolini - 'Benzino Napaloni' - on sharp spears of ridicule. Chaplin plays dual roles as Hynkel and an innocent Jewish barber in love with Hannah (Paulette Goddard). The plot is all about the astonishing resemblance between the humble barber and the dictator. Mistaken for 'the Phooey (Fuhrer) Hynkel', the little barber makes a speech at an enormous rally for the sons and Daughters of the Double Cross, in which he neatly double-crosses the double crossers! Features the now famous scene where Chaplin dances with the globe of the world.
