Jack Daniel's Scenes From Lynchburg #12 The Fire Brigade Tennessee Whiskey (2011) 1L

Limited Edition bottlings depicting scenes from Lynchburg. 8 bottles were released in the USA and 12 of them internationally. Not easy to come across these days.

Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey is a tradition rich in history that has become a way of life for many.

The Distillery still sits in the same Cave Spring Hollow that it has occupied since the days of Jack Daniel and is just a short walk away from the town square of Lynchburg. While the population of Lynchburg is no longer 361, as the famous black label stated for so many years, it is still a quaint town with a population of 6,207 according to the 2010 census figures.

Moore County has been a “dry county” dating all the way back to Prohibition. Oddly enough, this means that no whiskey can be served at the Distillery. In fact, it was not until 1995 that the Distillery was even allowed to sell commemorative bottles on location. Today, however, up to six different bottles are carried in the White Rabbit Bottle Shop, but with the restriction that each is no larger than 750ml in size…

Jack Daniel's is a brand of sour mash Tennessee whiskey that is the highest selling American whiskey in the world. It is produced in Lynchburg, Tennessee by the Jack Daniel's Distillery, which has been owned by the Brown-Forman Corporation since 1956. Despite being the location of a major operational distillery, Jack Daniel's home county of Moore is a dry county, so the product is not available for consumption at stores or restaurants within the county.

Although the product generally meets the regulatory criteria for classification as a straight bourbon, the company disavows this classification and markets it simply as Tennessee whiskey rather than as Tennessee bourbon.

Fire Brigade

“Every day we make it, we will protect the lives and safety of those who work and visit our facility and we will protect the property and our environment the best we can.” That is the mission statement of the Jack Daniel Distillery Fire Brigade. Made up of 34 full-time Distillery employees who have become state-certified firefighters, this brigade is an all-volunteer team that trains weekly in order to be best prepared in the event they are ever needed.

While the Distillery has had a group of firefighters on site since 1938, it wasn’t until the 1980’s when more resources were put into making it the fully functioning fire department it is today.

About Jack Daniel's

Jack Daniel's is the best-selling American whiskey in the world. Despite that fact it can legally be categorised as a straight bourbon, it has always shunned this title, preferring to market itself as a Tennessee Whiskey. These are similar to straight bourbons but have the additional requirement of having been filtered through maple wood charcoal, a practice known as the Lincoln County Process. History has not always given the distillery an easy ride though. Tennessee was an early adopter of Prohibition in 1910, and one of the last to repeal it in 1938 (five years later than the repeal at Federal level). Even today the distillery is still located in a "dry" county, meaning none of its products are sold in its hometown or those around it. The distillery was then only operational for four years before being forced to close again during the second world war. Ten years later it was purchased by the Brown-Forman corporation and its fortunes turned for good. Its classic black-labelled Old No.7 brand (named after the distillery’s original DSP number) is now a globally recognised product.
