It is not often we get the older stuff coming out of A Speyside Distillery. Often mistaken for a secret distillery that is another one from speyside but this is actually called A Speyside Distillery. Read below to learn more about them if you didn't know they existed already.

This intriguing single malt was distilled back in 1994 at The Speyside Distillery. We anticipated a very clean and delicate style, typical of this distillery, but were stunned by the complexity of this amazing malt. As with most well-aged whiskies, the majority of its flavour is derived from the cask, but what a cask it must have been. It's a unique whisky that we haven't seen much of before, we needed to add it to our collection.

Limited Whisky are an independent bottler with a lot of experience in cask trade which has led them to commence bottling their own releases for a few years. Part of the Whisky Partners family, they have direct access to high-quality casks sourced from distilleries, individuals, and industry contacts.

Limited carefully select and taste each cask. Some are ready to bottle, while others need more time or may be re-racked into different casks for finishing. This ensures that they only bottle single malts they are proud of. On the face of it as a regular person, we see the text and think "UNCHARTED PLAYSTATION GAME" but when you look further into what they do.... it is a winning combination for the current whisky market and those who genuinely love to drink whisky and open bottles.

Tasting Notes

Nose : Fruity scents dominate, with aromas of plums, strawberries, raspberries, and peaches. Cinnamon spice also present.

Palate : Rich, complex, and intense. Ginger and turmeric spices provide a vibrant awakening. Flavours of plums, liquorice, and coffee beans also come through. Mouthfeel is rich and creamy.

Finish : Long and spicy, with a lingering presence of cinnamon spice.

About a Speyside Distillery

The distillery, one of the most southerly of the Speyside triangle, is located close to the town of Kingussie and has been a quiet player in the world of single malt.

A small site, it has a pair of stills which were originally installed in the Lochside distillery but were cut down to size in order to fit into their new surroundings.

The whisky-making process here is taken at a relaxed pace. Ferments are long; distillation slow. The result is a light style.

Virtually unseen as a single malt – it has appeared under the Drumguish and Glentromie labels and is the liquid in the Loch Dhu ‘homage’ Cu Dubh – the distillery’s whisky is still further travelled than many of its compatriots. The mature spirit has appeared, incognito, in blends across Asia, has been launched in Mongolia, is a single malt range (called ‘Spey’) in Taiwan, and has been added to neutral spirit to produce Bhutanese whisky.

The idea of a single malt distillery came to industry legend George Christie in the 1950s. Prior to the construction of Speyside he had built the North of Scotland grain plant in Clackmannan, (some of the remaining casks are being eked out under the Scott’s Selection label owned by George’s son Ricky). It would take 30 years for his Speyside dream to become reality.

In 2013 the distillery and the firm was bought by Harvey’s of Edinburgh with Taiwanese backing.
