Old Ballantruan 15 Years Old is peat rich and exceptionally smooth Speyside peated single malt. Wholly matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks, this fine single malt imparts notes of warming spice and a sweet yet spicy long-lasting finish.
While the Tomintoul distillery is well-known for its laid-back expression (earning the nickname "the gentle dram"), it also produces a line of heavily-peated whiskies released under the Old Ballantruan name. This expression, launched in mid-2018, features smoky whisky which is not common of a Speyside. Reception has been very well received amongst those who have heard of this very under marketed brand.
Angus Dundee distillers have been in operation through Glencadam and Tomintoul for almost 200 years.
Tasting Notes
Nose : Smoky and intense with aromas of grilled meats, bell pepper and green banana with hints of eucalyptus and maple sweetness.
Palate : Layers of grilled fennel, Pak Choi and cured meats mingled with rich fruit cake, liquorice, black olives and cinnamon sticks.
Finish : Warming and long with layers of marzipan, prosciutto and pistachio fading into a sweet, smoky, aniseed linger.
About Old Ballantruan
Old Ballantruan is a line of heavily peated single malt Scotch whiskies from the Tomintoul Distillery in the Speyside region. Named after the Ballantruan spring, which provides the distillery's water, these whiskies offer a smoky, earthy, and creamy flavor profile, contrasting with the typical smooth Speyside style. The range includes a no-age-statement "Smoky Original" and expressions like 10-year-old and 15-year-old versions, all bottled at a robust 50% ABV and without chill-filtration.
