The St Swithun English Climbing Rose from David Austin Roses is active and beautiful. A short, vigorous climber bearing large, saucer-like blooms, each packed with over one hundred frilly petals. They are a pure soft pink, paling to blush towards the edges, and are complemented by plentiful greyish-green foliage. There is a medium-strong myrrh scent. The rose was named in 1993 after St Swithun, the Bishop of Winchester, to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the consecration of Winchester Cathedral.
This rose is suitable for all soil types and prefers full sunlight. It is ideal for brightening up walls or fences, and does well threaded through standard arches or obelisks. Versatile, the shrub also looks beautiful around doorways.
After approximately three years of annual pruning, the St Swithun will be about 3m tall, with a delicious myrrh scent and large blooms. As a repeat flowerer, this bush will give you fragrant flushes of flowers from late spring to early winter.
