Period: Late 1800s to early 1900s
Origin: Venice

Millefiori, meaning "a thousand flowers" in Italian, is also known as "chachasso" in Africa. Following the collapse of exclusive trade with the East and the dominance of Bohemian glass in the European market, Venice faced significant economic challenges. In response, they created Millefiori glass, known for its vibrant decorative patterns. Traders, who were already engaged in bead trade with Africa, crafted tube-shaped glass beads from Millefiori and transported them to Africa as trade beads.
