Chevron beads, a technique invented in the late 1400s by Maria Valoveer of Murano Island, Italy, represent a unique Venetian bead-making tradition. While most Venetian bead techniques are adaptations of ancient methods, Chevron beads are a distinct Venetian innovation. These beads can have up to 10 layers, with blue being the most common color. Red, green, and black varieties are rarer and more valuable. The name "Chevron" refers to the zigzag pattern, and they are also known as star beads or rosetta beads. This technique later spread to the Netherlands.
