Description:
The Austrian conductor Hans Rosbout (1895-1962) is recognized today as more of an "advocate of contemporary music". Certainly, he made a great contribution to the popularization of Schoenberg, Bartók, Stravinsky, and Krženec's works. But after World War II, he became passionate about performing Mahler's works, and from 1948 to 1962, he performed Mahler's works with the Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, among others, one after the other. The year 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of Rothbout's death, and this album is a tribute to the great conductor. The passionate enthusiasm that is sometimes evident in his rugged and cool expression must have paved the way for Mahler's performances at that time. Naxos Japan
